Centre for Therapeutic Storywriting Update

I hope term is going well after the snowy start. Here are the dates of the next
Therapeutic Storywriting course as well as details of a new one-day training
in Using Guided Imagery as a Way into Writing. Also included are details
of forthcoming conferences related to emotional well-being.
3-day Training: Setting up Therapeutic Storywriting Groups for Pupils with BESDs
Research has shown this intervention improves pupils' writing skills while developing
emotional literacy. It is a DCSF case example of good inclusive practice. The
training is practice-based and participants are expected to set up the 10 week
intervention with a group (4-6) of pupils in school after the second day of
the training.
Target
group: SENCOs, HLTAs, SEN teachers, Educational Psychologists, Learning
Mentors & School Counsellors supporting pupils (7-13 yrs) with BESDs at
KS2 & KS3
Location: Jurys Inn, Brighton (next to B'tn station)

Training: Using Guided Imagery as a Way into Writing
Guided imagery
can be used to support both pupils' emotional well-being and their engagement
with writing. This one day course will explore the use of guided imagery to
connect pupils with their internal world and show how this experience can also
lead into writing. Particpants will have the chance to experience guided imagery
journeys and also the opportunity to practise leading others. The skills can
be used in work with the whole class, small groups or individuals.
Target
group: Classteachers, SENCOs, HLTAs, SEN teachers, Educational Psychologists,
Learning Mentors & School Counsellors at KS2,KS3 & KS4

This conference will take the form of a study day with Dr Lane Strathearn, a
developmental pediatrician currently working in Houston, Texas. Dr Strathearn
will present research into the neurobiology of mother-infant attachment and
neurodevelopmental disabilities such as autism.
